Portugal coach Fernando Santos said that the controversial interview conducted by Cristiano Ronaldo
did not distract the attention of the players of the team that is preparing to face Nigeria in Lisbon
on Thursday in its last friendly match, before the World Cup finals.
When asked if Ronaldo's comments about his club Manchester United affected the team's preparations for the World Cup,
Santos said that what happened to Ronaldo had nothing to do with the national team.
"The player decided to do an interview, as many have done," Santos told a news conference on Wednesday in Lisbon.
"It is a personal interview, or it is very personal in fact, and we have to respect that. Isn't Cristiano Ronaldo free?...
It was his decision and we must understand and respect that."
